Hi, I’m Maya Perez (she/her), a queer, Mexican-american, clinical mental health counseling associate, residing on the unceded ancestral lands of the Duwamish, Suquamish, and Mukleshoot people, now known as Seattle, Washington.
I have worked in schools, LGBTQ+ domestic and sexual violence organizations, LGBTQ+ health projects, as well as land-based projects over the years. My experiences have shaped my approach to therapy as systemic, relational, and integrative. This means I acknowledge and honor your context, lineage, and histories, will utilize the relationship we build as a safe practice container, and most importantly, that I don’t believe in or use a one-size-fits-all approach.
I pull from a variety of modalities and techniques to best support the needs of each client. I am informed by and continue to learn from somatic principles, liberation psychology, Black, feminist, and Indigenous ideologies, internal family systems(IFS) theory, attachment theory, and emotionally focused therapy (EFT).
I received a MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Antioch University, and currently work as a licensed clinical mental health counselor assosciate under the supervision of Dr. Alisha Guthery, PhD, MA, LMHC.
